What the pupils thought of National School Sports Week!

Aycliffe Village Primary School Sports Week

Pupils from Aycliffe Village Primary School recently enjoyed a break from their traditional lessons when they held a ‘Sports Week.’

The week started with a Football Competition where the teams were linked to the last eight teams in the World Cup. The first rounds of the competition were held on the Monday.

On the Tuesday, the Year 6 pupils went to Durham Amateur Rowing Club for the day. Here we were given opportunity to row on the indoor rowing machines and later in the day we actually went onto the river in trainer sculling boats. Mrs Brown and Mrs Pullan also had a turn on the river. It was a brilliant day.

The other pupils had a Tri- Golf Tournament, A Taekwondo workshop and enjoyed a Cheerleading dance session.

On the Wednesday, we all took part in skipping workshops where we learnt a whole range of new skipping games. Brogan from Year 5 says “I had to go to the front to show a hard skill called The Pretzel in front of the whole school, I really enjoyed the day, it was great fun!”

Thursday was also a fabulous day. We had a climbing wall in school. Everybody had a turn at climbing it. Some children managed to get to the top three or four times. As well as this, we had a dance teacher from South Durham Gymnastics Club teaching us a dance routine. We performed this as a school to the parents. It was excellent.

Friday was also a great day. We had our Sports day and our parents were invited in to watch. We had a lot of activities that everybody joined in with and then we had some races.

We then found out which team had scored the most points: Holland won the Sports day competition.

The teams that made it into the final from Monday’s competition then played to find the winner. Ghana won! They beat Germany in a close final.

We all enjoyed the week. We did things that we had never done before. It was brilliant.

We hope that next year’s sport’s week can be as fun as this year but a little bit better. We would also like to thank the teachers for making that week a week to remember.
